An event trigger enters a user into a Journey when they perform a specific action that is tracked in Vero using the Track API, one of the Vero SDKs, or an integration such as Segment.com. Every Journey uses an event trigger.

Prerequisites

  1. Track events in Vero – your project must already be tracking the event you want to use. Learn how to set up event tracking
  2. Create a Journey – Learn how to create a Journey

Setting up an event trigger

  1. On your Journey’s overview page, click Edit in the When section.
  2. From the Event dropdown, choose the event that will enter users into the Journey. For example, to start an onboarding Journey when users sign up, choose an event like sign_up.
  3. Click Save. Journey overview with the When section open, showing the Event dropdown and the Save button
Once your Journey is launched, each time a user performs the event they enter the Journey at the Enter node and move through its steps.

Personalizing messages with event data

You can reference properties sent with the trigger event in any message in the Journey using {{ event.property_name }}. For example, if a sign_up event is tracked with:
You can personalize your email like this:

Stopping and restarting a Journey

While a Journey is stopped, users who perform the trigger event don’t enter it. When you restart the Journey, only events tracked after the restart enter users. Events tracked while the Journey was stopped don’t enter users retroactively. A Journey must be stopped before you can edit it. Learn more about editing Journeys

Event-triggered broadcasts

Event triggers are no longer available for new broadcasts. Existing event-triggered broadcasts keep working and show the Event trigger labelled Deprecated.
If you switch an existing broadcast away from the Event trigger, you can’t switch it back.
